Mike what really helps apart from F3 is using Astrodon 3nm filters and a very low noise camera at -40C, and using dithering with RBI flush and a top mount.
Having the whole optic train in sublime bondage also helps. I have not heard a comment about 'the corner stars' for a while.
To get the same signal to noise with an F5 optic would take far more than 24 hours of subs, as there is about three times more thermal noise per equivalent sub for the slower optic.
The very small white spots that look like residual noise in the Fred version are actually very dim stars below the mask threshold used to eliminate the stars.
