Thank you!

Rick,

Cheers, mate! It is a pretty special location, indeed. It was so windy, that I actually called it quits and then went and sat in the car for a bit. Then, tried again 10 minutes later when the colour was becoming more and more intense and a bit more overhead. Best decision, ever!

I can only imagine how spectacular it would be during summer. :O

Rod,

Thank you. Yes, it was a great thrill. I was enthralled; I wasn't looking through the viewfinder except for the first few shots for composition. I pressed the shutter after each exposure (and, associated in camera noise reduction timeout) while soaking it all in. I'm pretty sure I was shouting in joy at the sky.

It must have been such a thrill being directly under that amazing sight ... and soooo cold

Great determination, well done!
Jo,

Thank you.

Matt,

While I was setting up the composition, the aurora was moving in a southerly direction. I started shooting when it was pretty much over the waterfall. So, through some luck, it has turned out as you have noticed -- the aurora following the lines of the waterfall.

There was no moonlight whatsoever; what you see here is the landscape being lit up by the aurora itself. It was clearly visible as bright green and purples to the naked eye. It is a remarkable sight which is so hard to describe!
