If my memory serves me right (feel free to correct me), we as a nation had a viable space program during the 50’s and was the third nation in the world to launch its own satellite. But like most things our government does, usually through a lack of foresight, cut funding causing the Aussie space program to decline and lose the advantage we gain by having the ability to launch satellite.
In the last 10+ years there has been plenty of talk by politician to establish a space port so that Australia can get into the lucrative satellite launching business, which we had the ablity to in 50's. So what Andy Thomas is say in nothing new except he what to launch tourist.
