The closest I've got to that was one morning in 1975 on the bunny hop from Sydney to Canberra. Over Lake George the pilot said Canberra was closed with fog, and he had enough fuel to circle for 2.5 hours before he had to return to Sydney.
He'd just started to circle to the south east of Canberra when he banked hard right and landed. Even before he turned off the runway he announced the airport had been closed as soon as he had wheels down.
I guess some pollie was prepared to risk everyone on board to get to a meeting.
