You may not only stare but use it for visual or imaging. I am not too proud to say I know diddly squat about the practical side of observational astronomy. I have retired and have an interest in photometry that I now have the time to pursue.
I will learn the trade by sharing - if I see how others use the equipment I will better understand the tips and tricks and limits of what can and can't be done
