CalSky Informed me there would be a Tiangong-1 Solar transit fairly close to me this arvo so I popped out at lunch to see if I could image it.
I went to a park in Darling Point that isn't too far from my work and which was right on the centreline of the transit.
I was tossing up between using a 7D and doing stills or video on my QHY5L-IIc. The 7D would get the full disk and should have captured 4 frames as it can do 8fps and the transit was 0.5 seconds. The QHY5L-IIc runs at 15fps at full res in EzPlanetary (I've had higher in SharpCap but inconsistently) but it would have a narrower FOV when using the 2xbarlow and without the barlow would just be too low-res to bother with.
Also I've found I get much better detail with the QHY5L-IIc in the PST than with a DSLR.
In the end I went with the QHY5L-IIc and I managed to image the transit but due to the relatively small size of Tiangong-1 and the small aperture of the PST it basically looks like a dark blob with no real detail.
I did a little video on Youtube which just loops a few times in normal speed and slowed down. Make sure you choose 720p HD and don't blink!
