DSO's - and galaxies in particular - will be the discriminator for these two scopes.

Basically a 20cm aperture puts galaxies in reach. A 60 cm has no chance apart from the Magellanic clouds and a few bright ones like NGC 5128.

And for galaxies, a 30-40cm aperture is really where the fun starts. Beyond that the next significant increment is 60-90 cm.
