I am both embarrassed while simultaneously extremely appreciative of the advice from another IIS member and Unitron/Polarex expert who has just advised me that these models were only made with a single focuser on the one right side!
So - egg on my face - what I previously described as a missing focuser wheel etc is in fact stock standard how the refractor was actually made and in no way a fault at all!
Too bad I guess if you happen to be left handed
