Watching the sun

I wondered what this foil thing was with my telescope. After I found out it is a sun filter I thought I'd give it a go.

The sun was white (white hot I imagine), quite perfectly round. What I found odd is a few black spots. Do these change throughout the day? It's the first time I've ever seen the sun like this and won't be the last.

It's all very interesting this star/sun gazing caper. I'm heading out tonight to check out the moon again.
