I would've thought that when you edited your post (in advanced edit) there would be a delete this post panel at the top  ? Maybe even a delete button at the bottom RHS in the normal edit window (or am I just seeing moderator stuff?   )

It's there for us plebs, too.
After selecting Edit, select Go Advanced and the panel is at the top of the page.
There might be some setting in vB, though, that limits thread editing/deleting rights. I seem to recall (from previous forum duties) that users could be barred from editing a thread (as distinct from a single post) which
may prevent thread deletion.
