Small silica packs become saturated quickly and would not be sufficient in a humid environment. leaving the tube uncapped at both ends and covered with a cloth in an air conditioned house would be better, or store the scope in a dry box of some sort.

When cleaning be careful not to drag particles across the coatings and avoid getting too much solvent near the edge of the lens - it might wick around the edge and between the elements.

Looking at the objective from the side you should be able to see if the spots are on the front or rear surface. good luck with it all. Not a pleasant sight on an expensive refractor.
