I just could not get quite as crisp a focus on the shots for the mosaic as I did for the previous evenings Tycho shot. An obvious difference was the atmospherics. It had been a hot day here with quite a lot of haze. And it was taken quite early evening over the warm roof of the house. I'll try using liveview through the laptop next time and a better position.
Interesting to hear about the softness Rowland. I was surprised and a little disappointing by the flatness. This camera won't be getting modded, as it's my only decent(ish) camera. I did tweak the mosaic a fair bit in DPP to try and get some of the contrast back. The Tycho shot is as it came out of the camera but cropped.
As a first go with dslr and newt, both sessions put a big smile on my face and got a "wow" from my wife and boys. All part of the gaining knowledge. Onwards and,er, upwards!
