It's my turn soon - on Thursday flying London to Sydney.
4 years ago I made the decision never again to fly on Qantas given the number of incidents they were having, as from an engineering perspective it indicates the are skimping on maintenance and IMHO its only a matter of time before the lose an aircraft with all on board - and their incident rate implies the likelihood is significant compared to some other carriers.
Reliability centred maintenance when done properly means no failures in service. None. Not even a little hiccup. Much the same as Japanese cars.
FWIW I'm on Singapore airlines this time, my other choice is Cathay. And yes I drive a Japanese car.
