Adrian, Joining a club is a great idea. You're very to join us at The Macarthur Astronmical Society. www.macastro.org.au
We meet in Campbelltown at U.W.S. and we have two dark sky sites we visit, 1/2 hour and 1 hour from Campbelltown.
