I camped at Fletcher Creek, 44km north of Charters Towers, Qld for 6 nights Aug 4 to 9.
Took the 16" Dob up and looked at the northern sky mainly (from latitude -19.8). It was clear every night and the galaxies were much brighter than they are here.
A young guy near me built a big fire so I had to wait for him to go to bed before I could do some good observing. Luckily he went to bed early.
Here is a map showing Fletcher Creek.

There were about 100 camper-vans and caravans in the free camping area but their lights did not worry me because I camped to the north of everyone else.
On the way up I camped 23km north of Springsure to do some observing. After I set up camp I discovered there was a coal mine about 5km west of me and they shone a very bright spot light in my direction most of the night,
