Hi Allan. After fitting the new focuser onto the tube over the secondary mirror, check to see its position over the secondary mirror. You will then need to mark the location of the centre of the focuser on the opposite side of the optical tube.
Wrap a length of cash register ribbon around the optical tube next to the edge of the focuser body.
Mark the point on the ribbon where it touches the edge of the focuser and is also the centre point of the focuser.
Measure the distance from the centre of the focuser to the edge of the focuser body pointing towards the primary mirror.
Then, after marking where the ribbon joins, remove the length of ribbon and match up the join.
Fold the ribbon flat in half with the centre mark at one end.
Re-attach the ribbon on the tube as before. You will find where the ribbon is creased will be on the opposite of the focuser.
Mark the distance from the crease with the measurement from the centre of the focuser to the edge of the focuser body.
This should be the point directly opposite the focuser.
Drill a small hole into the tube.
Remove the secondary mirror and by using your collimator you can adjust the focuser so when the laser beam goes through the hole it should be aligned. You can use a small self-tapping screw to fill the hole.
