Yattalunga Wharf Nightscapes

Here’s a couple more images from the morning I spent at Yattalunga in early July. They’re very similar, but the first is taken at 24mm f/2.8, and the other at 14mm f/2.8.

Canon 6D, 14-24mm @ 24mm f/2.8, 30s @ ISO3200. Processing was quite difficult with the light pollution to the South (Sydney) as well as the local light pollution around Woy Woy and Gosford.
- Large 1

This comparison shows the difference that focal length can play. It’s only a 10mm difference, but can mean a big difference in how you compose your shot, how the Milky Way appears against the landscape, and of course how long you can expose for before you start getting star trails.

Second shot was Canon 6D, 14-24mm @ 14mm f/2.8, 20s @ ISO3200. I could’ve used a longer exposure, but with the light pollution, it washed out too much of the image.
- Large 2

The foreground of both shots is probably too contrasty now, and I only really took notice after posting a raw/processed shot of this one on Facebook. I’ll probably go back and re-process this in the future and leave the foreground less processed.
