It stands for Audio Video Interleave and is a common video file format. But as Jen has found out not all AVIs are the same AVIs, there are actually lots of different ways of saving the video stream within that format. Complicated? YES!! I gave myself several headaches trying to understand while writing the video occultation manual for the RASNZ Occ. Section. Unless you really like the tech stuff you might be wandering into dangerous territory there...
