ouch.. sorry to hear that. but, 2 more reasons to get a tokina 11-16..
1. you can use the 16mm end on a full frame (i use it on my nikon D700. not sure if it's the same with canon)
2. the lens is more heavy duty. my friend's 11-16 fell from a tripod hitting the ground at more than a meter and survived. mine fell at the airport customs inspection table and survived as well.
