Four from 55 deg N

Just to kick off my posts here...

The Christmas Tree cluster and cone Nebula is visible in the Southern Hemisphere, but not M82 the cigar galaxy or M97 The Owl Nebula (right?) M109 is a work in progress.

I had to trim the Cone neb to try and get inside the posting guideline (failed miserably - story of my life 'could try harder'). Full size of it (still reduced) can be seen on my website.

OK - I don't tend to write up my shots...

My main camera is a B&W Starlight Xpress Hx916 CCD camera, 6.7 micron pixel size, 1.3 megapixel which I bought just after New Year, so I've not had it long. I use this with Astronomiks Ha and LRGB filters. I use a self-modified QuickCam Pro 3000 SC1.5 camera for guiding.

My scopes are an 8" f5 Newt and an 80mm William Optics Megrez 80SD f6 ED refractor. These are mounted on an HEQ5 heavy equatorial mount which I modified for PEC, Autoguiding and Goto. The PE is trained to about 8 arcsecs at the minute, though I have had it down to 5.

The cone Nebula (RA 6h41, dec 9 deg 38, Monoceros) shot was taken through my WO Megrez 80SD at f6 - 20 minute Ha and 10 min Ha give the L and R channels, 3 min G & B. It's 4 hours worth over 2 nights combined. Guided through my newt using guidedog and a webcam.

The M82 Cigar Galaxy (RA 9h56, dec 69 deg 39, Ursa Major mag8.8) shot was taken at prime on my 8" newt at f5 - 3 minute L subs at full resolution, 2 min RGB subs binned 2x2. About an hour and a quarter's worth in total. Guided using my 80mm Megrez, webcam/ guidedog.

M97 The Owl Nebula (RA 11h15 dec 54 deg 59, Ursa Major, mag12) was taken using my newt. I got clouded out during the rgb shots, so there's only 5 of each - the L channel is a mixture of 1 and 2 min subs. Guided using the megrez/ webcam/ guidedog combo again.

M109 (RA 11h58 dec 53 deg 21, Ursa Major, mag10.6) again the newt, 5 min L subs - i need about another 20 or so of these then I'll shoot some RGBs - 3 min binned 2x2.
