Hi all , I was in Cashies yesterday for a little squize , you never know what nugget's you will find ? , and find one I did! .
Going thru the DVD's I found the movie ,
" The Dish " , about the Parks radio telescope and its use during the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing , ( as if I need to tell you's that ..? ) And I had forgotten this rare Jem of a movie .
Such a great uplifting movie , I wathced it last night and probably again today if the weather dont clear .
Sam Neil , Kevin Harrington , Tom Fong and Patrick Warburtin are all awsome in this , along with the whole cast .
:D Its the sort of movie that I can tell all the cast and crew had a good time making it as everyone fits their charactors perfectly/ happily and pulls them off , naturally very well .
A real nugget and keepere this one is.
I still fell good inside and proud of this acheavement this morning , yep a great movie , if you ;) like me havn't seen it in a while do your selves a favor , grab it and watch it , I guarentee it will make your day ( 's) .
Brian .

I agree with you, Brian. Its a nice, feelgood sort of movie with the added bonus of being of historic significance-although I am sure there were some embellishments to make it a better movie.

One of my favs. Pretty close to the true story. Did you know it was filmed in Forbes?. Parks had changed too much over the years. Lovely movie.

Brian.... Apollo 11, not 12.

Embellishments? Yep! The initial signal actually came from Honeysuckle Creek, near Canberra - not Parkes. There were a few other examples of artistic license, too. See http://www.outreach.atnf.csiro.au/visiting/parkes/looselybased.html.

That being said, it was a great movie and I would love to see it again!

Cheers

The adage applies John: "Why let the truth get in the way of a good story" :D

I liked the The Dish too. Great Aussie movie.

I picked it up cheaply about 8-10 weeks ago and sat and watched with my wife - then watched again - twice(!) - the Directors' commentaries. Loved it.

I have to agree, one of those classic Australian movies.

I think it might be time to get it out for another viewing.

"The Dish" One of my favourite movies along with "The Castle"

as mentioned above the Parkes Dish was not the actual dish to receive the 'Moonwalk'.

Here is a quick photo of the real 'Dish' that I took about 2 hours ago:
This is the 26metre DSS46 which was built in 1967 and installed at Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station ( 35°35′1″S 148°58′36″E ) for the Apollo program, it was subsequently dismantled in 1984 and moved to Tidbinbilla Tracking Station where it was used for DSS work till 2009.
