Total solar eclipse from Palm Cove

Just got back from the far north so only have the unedited images at this stage. Did have a quick look in PS to see if I could bring out more of the wharf (in the photo where the eclipse isn't too over exposed) but no luck without over exposing it (haven't edited many photos in PS). Do have a variety of exposures that show the wharf ok but the eclipse to over exposed. Happy for any suggestions if it's possible to improve them :help:

Hi KISA,

#3 looks great on my monitor! I don't think you want the jetty too bright, because it was actually fairly dark during totality. But you should be able to adjust it using curves or a gradient filter in PS if you want.

Thanks Laurie and thanks Stephen for the suggestion. I also like the colour of the wharf in the third photo, so if I'm able to get the eclipse exposure of the first into a wharf brightness of the 3rd I'd be happy :). I'll have a play with curves and a gradient filter as you suggested. Thanks again.

These are great photos, and you've certainly taken the right approach bracketing. Blending a number of images is my standard technique for widefield totality shots.

I've had a go with your images you've posted here (very quickly, so it could probably be improved). I'd be happy to have a go with the full-res (or RAW) images if you like, alternatively I can send you a Photoshop file showing how I blended these ones, and you could apply it to the original images. I used each of the 4 images for a different component (1. inner corona; 2. outer corona; 3. extended outer corona & sky; and 4. wharf/ocean).

In fact, this is probably one my favourite images I have seen from this eclipse, and is definitely worthwhile taking the time to process it to its full potential.

Thanks Geoff, that is amazing work with the images and exactly what I hoping to eventually achieve. I would love to learn how to blend images the way you have, so if you are able to send me a file on how to do it that would be great.

Unfortunately the originals are not RAW, just full res jpegs. A consequence of using a family/everyday camera and forgetting to check if the settings had been changed. Kicking myself over that one. The originals are still a lot higher res than the posted images so hopefully it will still come up ok.
