10mm + 30mm GSO Superview EP question.

Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with any of the 10mm + 30mm GSO Superview EPs?
I'm considering a purchase for my 12" f5 dob.
Andrews are doing the 30 for $59 and the 10 for $39 - if they're any good, it's a steal.
Looking forward to your comments.

My experience of superview eyepieces are that they are about as well corrected as a plossl, with the extra field that they have over a plossl being inhabited by seaguls, ie not very nice at f5.

The closest thing to a well corrected widefield at a non-premium price is the Orion Stratus/Baader Hyperian. If the budget cant stretch to those, then you are better off sticking with plossls until then IMO.

30mm Superview is not great, but will do as a finder if that is the most you can afford. Based on what I have seen of the 15 & 20mm, I would not bother with the 10mm. Not at all suitable for an f/5 or f/6 even. Like Geoff said, you're much better off with an inexpensive plossl.

i have the 30, i have to say that its pretty much like a plossl, i find that i prefer my 26mm 2" plossl over it, it isnt the bomb, rather just a hmm, not bad eyepeice?, i would have to say, that i pretty much agree with the two posts ontop.

I have the 2" 30mm SuperView and enjoy using it to spot Galaxies. At f5 it has seagulls in the outer 30% FOV.

Don't bother if you want good widefield views, but if you just want to spot galaxies before you bump up to higher mags, then it is fine for that. It is a galaxy magnet!

I have found that used with the 2" GS 2x Barlow the seagulls vanish (gone to eat someone elses chips probably) but buying both defeats the purpose just to get great widefield views. Might as well pay for a better 2" widefield in the first place.

i have a 30mm and 15mm... for some reason my 15mm is good to the edge or if the scope isnt cooled to the last 5%... the 30mm doesnt get used muchthese days tho, if kyou lived locally i'd probably give it to you... I am on the lookout for a better plossl. the 30mm is a good finder tho and shows galaxies well.

The 30mm is ok for the price (as others have said), but not great at f/5.

The 10mm is rubbish and I wouldn't waste my $40.

I have a 30mm SV, have had it for a couple of years. Even in a f/6
it seagulls a lil in the last 20% but not to the extent that it is too
annoying. Besides for the price that they are I still think they are
the best low priced wide field ep you can get. But maybe they are
being made slightly different now or by another source.

That's right, this eyepiece is good in the centre (50%) of the FOV. Beyond that astigmatism gets pretty bad. I found the # of degrees of AFOV that were clear was very similar to my 30mm Ultima. So for the price it's a decent value. FWIW, I sold the 30mm GSO and kept the Ultima.
