This is from Saturday night before it closed in.
NGC1365 with Super Nova SN2012fr still quite bright in the upper right and a number of other galaxies in the Forax group along the lower part of the image.

Seeing was excellent for a short time around midnight and I managed to get about 70 minutes or so before the clouds stopped us for the night.
Would love to be there tonight as it looks good but you can't have it all your own way.

Anyway
ED80 with field flatener and Pentax K5 SLR
50 minutes of 5 min subs and the remainder are 6 min subs.
No darks or flats but I'm pretty happy with what I got. My new SX Super Star guide camera is working a treat so now it down to business.

I like your image Ken!

Looks like a view through the eye piece.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Justin
Yes that's interesting you should say that as although I would have liked to get a lot more data that would show more colour and still may well I'm happy the way this has come out so far and I know a lot don't like the very black background but now I know why I liked it, exactly what you said.

Thanks guys,
Yes I think I've finally got the kit working reasonably well and looking forward to more imaging.

Cheers

I missed this one Ken, good that you could capture this new star before it fades

Thanks Mike,
I would like to have gotten some time on it with the 8" SCT but the moon has put an end to that. I will be very lucky if it is still there to some degree when the moon is gone for me, working a late afternoon shift two weeks a month makes it difficult as well.

As others have mentioned, a beautiful crisp and clear image, nicely framed!

I would have a crack at it anyway mate, it is a bright galaxy and would show up ok against a moon lit sky. I would think you could grab a nice shot even with the moon up given the narrow FOV in the C8 will make sky gradients less of an issue too
