With all the cloudy weather I have had one last crack at processing NGC6744; hopefully it now does justice to the new scope! Based on feedback from the previous attempt, I have fixed the red/blue background mottling and brought out the fainter regions of the galaxy better. Also I have improved the galaxy colour and the data is no longer black clipped and the R/G/B histograms line up nicely in PS. Anyway, it's as good as I can get it with my current experience ... of course, any feedback is welcome!

That is a great result.

Nicely done. You took this at Bowen Mountain? All those background faint galaxies - thats remarkable light gathering and clarity.

Greg.

I can only be envious of your image David!

So detailed from edge to edge, I have a lot to learn about processing looking at your image.
If you don't mind me asking, how did you deal with the mottling in the background?

Thanks for sharing this one.

Cheers,

Justin.

Excellent image of a difficult galaxy. Really nice and well composed.
What length of data did you accumulate?

Thanks Martin!

Thanks Jas - took a while but finally got the colour to my satisfaction.

Thanks Ken!

Yes, actually half-way up the mountain right near the border with Grose Vale on Serpentine Lane (230 mtr altitude).

Thanks Larry!

Afraid of repros - who me? This must be about the fifth time that I have redone this (I didn't publish some of them) - it's a good way to learn by continually revisiting the same image and improving on it each time. Mind you I'm pretty tired of looking at this galaxy now ....

Thanks Justin! The mottling was caused when I used the "Reduce Noise" tool in PS - I had the Colour Noise setting at 75% which caused the mottling effect. It didn't become noticeable till later when I stretched the dim regions using Shadows / Highlights. When I reprocessed I changed the colour noise setting to 10%.

Thanks Rick!

Thanks Allan - I took the following data: LRGB image - 18x15m Lum, 13x15m Red, 9x15m Green & 12x15m Blue.

Thanks Steve!

Thanks Peter!

Thanks Ross!

What, no more repros you mean ?? Well ... I guess I can't think of anything more to do to it anyway :P
