View Full Version here: : Unusual Clouds?
Hi all,
Yesterday arvo, looking to the west just after sunset in Brisbane, I spotted some very strange looking clouds. Kinda looked like a long string that got twisted around too many times. I took some (unfortunately rather blurry) photos over about 20 minutes, as the structure faded away.
Did anyone else happen to see this? After seeing the 'jet' heading downwards to the right, it looks more like something human-related although I'm not sure what kind of aircraft would create that?
Cheers

They look like contrails to me.

The last three with the streak to the right (to my untrained eye ) look like jet trails, possibly an f18 or f111. :)

I saw it. Both are contrails. The bending is caused by wind shears and variance.
Seen it a "few" times... commercial pilot for the last 20 years :) Probably made a few once or twice too :) :) :)

Seen that sort of trail many times in the UK (more favourable conditions?), definitely normal jet contrails, the first ones clearly foreshortened by line-of-sight and distorted by high-altitude winds. When they happen in the direction of sunset, sometimes these are brightly lit and blazing golden, can look pretty cool!
Awesome! I hadn't seen anything like it before, but then again maybe I just never took notice. Lewis, since you are at the sunshine coast and still able to see them, I wonder how far away you can see contrails from?

Depends on the atmosphere, and where I was when I saw em :)

Hi Sir.
The trail on the right in your third and second last photos shows a thin white gap indicating port and starboard engines.
