Early days I know. But for those of us that might still be around in 2028 or heard the news mention this eclipse event, I found this link on the NASA site for the next total eclipse to go over Australia.

Book it in now if you dare. Looking at the path of 'totality' if it's raining or cloudy in Sydney we could always try places like Dubbo or Mudgee.

That's correct "bones". I checked it out on Cartes du Ciel and it's going right over Sydney :eyepop:at 2.29 pm on Saturday 22nd July, 2028. I'll be 72 years old then and am looking forward to 'the fun with no sun'.

If we don't fall off the twig or move by then, I will get 3 min 49.3 sec of totality in my back yard in Sydney.

has the Google Earth KMZ for that eclipse. There are links on the page for interactive Google Maps and KMZs for every eclipse from 1961 to 2099.

Almost 4 minutes in Sydney? Awesome!

After seeing how mobile I needed to be for this eclipse to get away from the cloud, my preference for 2028 will be Western NSW based in a town on a highway that runs parallel to the eclipse pathway.
Dubbo - Narromine - Bourke looks good to me!
As does Casper Wyoming for 2017!

I will be getting on a bit for the eclipse. More than likely I will be in jail (my political views are at odds with our current overlords) or executed. If by some miracle society is still intact, I can look forward to the dead centre of the eclipse being about 2 miles from our house, 250 metres from Bintel, around 1 mile from Epping, 2 miles from Crago, 5 miles from Wiruna. Spoilt for choice here on viewing locations and plenty of potential to up stumps and blast out bush with some large country towns being near the centre as well as a number of roads running the path of totality. This will likely be the most friendly eclipse to view ever.Photographic equipment will be incredibly advanced by then- expect most cameras to have built in HDR and have megapixel counts getting up to theoretical limits with SD cards being in the terabytes. Just have to some how stay alive that long.

The centre-line is less than 1km north of my house!
I doubt that I will still be living here in 2028 however.
