View Full Version here: : Member Map goes Beta
For those of you who have longed to appear as a little red dot somewhere in the world - here it is. I've finished the member map.
It still needs some work and I'll try and get higher resolution maps to be able to zoom in to your state/country. But I'm still waiting for NASA's Visible Earth site to come back online so I can download the hi res images.
If you have any suggestions, let me know and i'll see what I can do.

It's fairly accurate. So if you happen to appear in the ocean, don't abuse me - i'm just plotting you where you told me to :)
have fun.

Gary,
I think you need to change the format for your Lat & Lon to xx.xxx
Like -40.350 & 175.617 for me.
PS.. You've got me hot on the next version of Star-Mate... It's gonna have an integrated USB hub, and integrated USB-Serial-LX200 control..
Cheers

OK, done it. And in decimal as per the Heaven Above page.
Don't blame me for the next version of this monster you have created, I am happy with the earlier version. It sounds like a winner.
Gary
P.S. can I have a dot now?? Please.

Make sure you refresh (F5), maybe it's showing a cached version. I can see both Paul and Gary's little red dot.
i get the impression that you think i sit there with a red pen and draw your dot it :)
when you update your profile, refresh the map and you should appear on it. if you appear of the error list then you did something wrong.
And in your case rumples, you are there. it's just that you're under someone else so you can't see your dot.
with everybody starting to enter their coordinates, the capital cities are getting cluttered. who would have thought most people live there hey? :) still waiting for a high resolution image from nasa so that i can create some state images.
Parsec, if you point me to a light pollution image, i'll use it.
Mike, if you point me to a baseball bat, i'll use it :D

How did Silvie end up in the Blue Mountains?
Mojo and Mike,
Will there be a link to the maps on the Home page or will we always have to come into this thread to find it?
Mike was supposed to find a place for it yesterday, now that you mention it.
It'll eventually be replaced with version 2 of the map which will be zoomable among other things.
And a note to Ian: You're south of the equator! South! How can you be an astronomer and not know where you are on the planet? :)

Ken I'm pretty sure I'm in the right spot. I'm only about a 35 to 40 minute drive east from the Blue Mountains (well, with the way Le drives, take the lesser value :P)
Did I mention that the map just looks way cool? Great job mojo and Mike. Can't wait to see the zoomable version.

Thanks Tom. The address is at the start of this thread too. Just wondering what happened to the link that was going to get done. It would be a bit quicker than looking for this thread each time I want to check out the map.
