Can anyone tell me the OD of both the 2" and 2.5" moonlite newtonian focusers?

I'm considering upgrading the focuser on my GSO 200mm f4 (which has the stock 2" ID focuser) and so am using the OWL Diagonal calculator to work out the field illumination at different points in the optical path from the secondary to the focal plane.

I'm also unsure as to whether the drawtube of the 2.5" moonlite would fit through the existing hole in my optical tube. i realise I would most likely need to drill new holes for the mounting screws, but im not sure how I would go about increasing the size of the main focuser hole if that was required (from say 3" to 4") and in that case it would probably be easier to just go with the 2" moonlite which is a simple direct replacement.

:thanx:

I have the 2.5 inch moonlite on the same scope, and it did fit in the existing hole.

i'm guessing it's a pretty close fit. What's the clearance?
btw, when you upgraded your focuser to the larger 2.5" did you also increase the secondary as well?

thanks Peter.

Richard,

Send an e-mail to Ron at Moonlite. He will know the right answer for you. I asked him several questions before I bought both my moonlites. He is a wealth of knowledge and will point you in the right direcction.

have been able to get a rough idea from counting pixels on the photo from the moonlite website and scaling that to the other dimensions given (to work out inches per pixel).

looks like the OD of the 2.5" drawtube is about 2.7", which as Peter said will fit in the existing hole

Will email Ron when i'm closer to pulling the trigger to confirm the measurements (good suggestion Rod :) )
