It will be mated up to a cheap 70mm SkyWatcher refractor.

What about this one? Seems to be cheap enough.

Hope you are not in a hurry for a transit! The next Venus one is in 2117, the good news is that it will be entirely visible in all parts of Australia. The next Mercury transit is in 2016 (May 9 to be accurate!) but Australia is about the only place it won't be visible! the one following that is in 2019.
So no rush!:P
