TRYING to image NGC 2070 Tarantula Nebula tonight. It's fairly close to the SCP as we all know, and my Orion guider - if aligned with the scope - simply won't guide it, saying that RA calibration fails - star did not move enough (maybe my polar alignment is TOO good :))

Is this common????

Should I simply move the guidescope to a further out from pole star?

NOOB question, I know

Will be glad when my OAG turns up this week!

Guiding in this region is always a pain.
I have a lot of troubles trying to get Tarantula thanks to guiding.

Few things you can do:
Move to a star further West/east and calibrate the guider. Once calibrated, go back to tarantula. With PHD this works so-so. MaximDL handles it fine, but sometimes PHD just doesn't like it and won't guide.

Otherwise, if you are using PHD, increase your step size to like 7000 or so. It will take longer to calibrate but should work. If not, increase it even more.
