Hi All,

Picked up my new telescope yesterday. Installed it onto the mount in the evening. Fired it up, all looks good so far, but of course it's cloudy.

The camera should arrive by the middle of next weekish, so there'll be wall to wall clouds in Melbourne for the foreseeable future.

It's an ASA N12, which I bought in preference to the AG12 after much mental anguish. The two scope have similar specs, are similar in price etc. Mike Sidonio had problems with his ASA scope and raves about his AG12. But I've also read of similar problems with the AG scopes. I suppose that's what you get when they are hand made, sometimes things go wrong. What clinched the deal was that ASA have a representative in Melbourne, so I didn't have to go through the hassle of importing it myself. Cris cut me a good deal, so I went with the ASA.

Here's some pics, one in the very nice transport case, one installed on the PMX.

Cheers
Stuart

Looks beautiful Stuart, particularly on your PMX

I have some great skies now but that observatory you have will be a god send, particularly during your shakedown...something I really missed

Look forward to the masterpieces, these fast Newt platforms are a killer

What camera is on its way btw?

For what it's worth, there is an Aussie (and NZ) Dealer for Orion Optics UK now though: Astro Shop (http://www.myastroshop.com.au/)

Hi Mike,

Camera is an Sbig STT8300 pro package.

Good to know that there is an Aussie dealer for the Orion Optics scopes, it makes it so much easier to make these decisions if you know that you have some local support.

It's Melbourne cup day on Tuesday, that with a new scope should mean that some ark building going on!

Cheers

Yes, I remember you saying about the STT8300, I forgot. You should have no issues with that size chip and camera on this scope.

Don't worry, it will clear eventually, enjoy yourself

Beaute set up. Are they parallax rings or came with the ASA?

Hi Marc,

They are ASA rings, I forgot that I should have got a rail as well, the agent in Melbourne didn't remind me. Anyway, probably a moot point as they bolt onto the PMX versaplate. It'll make it harder to change scopes on the mount, but I'm not sure I will be changing that often now.

Cheers
