I am an amateur in astrophotography. For some time I have been trying to take pictures of DSO using Alt-Az (with exposure n*1sec). Now I can't stand with it. But to use EQ, I must choose it.
What do you think, which variant will be better: to buy EQ1/EQ2 or to save more and then buy something better. I heard, that EQ1/EQ2 are bad mounts. Does anybody have photos, made using them?
Thanks
Vasya

 What scope ? or are you using a DSLR and lenses on its own ?
My opionon is both mounts are worth avoiding , with a barge pole , totally not well made enough for AP , sorry .;) .

EQ1 & 2 are lightweight mounts and the quality leaves something to be desired. For pix of DSO you need accurate tracking for at least 30 secs or more with a longish lens which means almost minimum EQ5.
You could possibly do widefeild with a cheaper mount (or a Polarie or similar) as tracking is not quite so critical.
I have done widefeild with my DSLR on a modified and stabilised EQ2 but it was not consistent enough for any long exposures. Certaily not good enough for higher magnifications on DSOs.

Ok, thanks.
In such case, I should ask you for reserve (ersatz) variant: barn door. Does somebody use it for DSO astrophotography? I know, that it is a bad idea, but I haven't another one.
