Hi everybody.
We are two people coming from Buenos Aires, Argentina to observe our 4th total solar eclipse and we are thinking of staying at Cairns.
Is there any place at Cairns where amateur astronomers belonging or not to an Astronomical Society are preparing to meeting up during the eclipse? If so, please let us know to join you. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bernardo,

Welcome!

Apologies on behalf of us all for not having replied earlier.

Collectively, one of the problems we faced was picking a suitable venue in the area
where we could all meet up. Geography we are scattered over a large area as to where
we are staying and as to where we plan to view the actual eclipse itself.

There is a strip or beaches to the north of Cairns that is dotted with beach houses,
holiday apartments, country clubs, cafes and restaurants and one of those beach
side areas is known as Palm Cove.

There is a new thread here about meeting up with fellow amateur astronomers from
1pm until late at a cafe/bar/grill called Apres here -

As the bars and cafes are likely to be busy post eclipse, you would be best advised
to park some distance away and then make your way on foot.

The get together is also likely to spill out onto the beach if Apres gets full.
Just introduce yourself as "Bernardo from Argentina on IceinSpace" to just about
anyone wearing any type of amateur astronomy T-shirt in the bar and you will
be fully hooked-into the social circle.

Once again, welcome and hope to meet you!

Best Regards
