View Full Version here: : Helix 53.5 Hours
Here is my FSQ Helix Bi-Narrowband final processing combine. The small telescope experiment is over. Time for a much bigger telescope on this object. Stll, the little "light sipper" FSQ did a remarkable job IMO.

Great stuff John! Love the colours as well as the depth. It's amazing how much there is there when you go deep.

53.5 hours?! :eyepop: That is incredible! Great image.
Can you get to a point where going any deeper no longer adds to an image?
Limited perhaps by the sky background overwhelming the faint features.
40 minute subs Marcus. Thanks!

Holy Halos, that is the deepest Helix I have seen, you get a sense of its structure and its closeness to us. Those long subs and all that time and dedication, background a little red but unbelievably strong detailed halos.
John.

Now, where I come from, that's called oneupmanship!
53.5 hours John and a very decent result to boot - a little too much red spattering in the background, but the nebula itself is very deep and well coloured.
cheers

What a great effort, and the image speaks for itself. Lots of faint detail and I very much like the colours of the Helix in this image.
Like others said, the background has a red tint but that's very minor.

Best widefield Helix I have ever seen.
That is astounding, John.
How are you going to top this one? :)

Hey everyone, thank you for the kind comments.
The image link has a version with a darker, and more color corrected sky background. The thumbnail link is just way too bright and "red". That being said, I'm happy with the result and glad you all enjoyed it.
I may do a complete reprocess with some different techniques as time permits. This object needs more image scale, but I was inspired by Martin's great image to give the Helix a go with the FSQ. Otherwise I would have passed on it until we installed a larger instrument in Coona.
Cheers,
jg

Hi John,
Inspiring, simply perfect. I confess that I have never seen a Helix with such level of details and deepness. The outer, outer layer is amazing.
I must congratulate you for this stunning image.
Thank you very much for sharing this great result,
Fernando
Hi everyone, thank you all for the positive comments about the Helix image. ICEINSPACE is a great forum to share images. I hope the image is an inspiration for those with small telescopes.
cheers,
