I just bought one these little beauties and I must say I am impressed already. I love it when everything works right out of the box.
Just a question. I am running it off a battery at the moment but anyone run it off AC/DC c12-15v 15amp max converter?
Just wondered if I could get an adaptor from Jaycar etc ?
Good shout out to the dealers as well, ordered 18/10 at 1207pm - was waiting for me at home today in Tassie (a day later!) sweet!
Will be running a CCD / DSLR/filter wheel and a couple of dew heaters max, maybe max. I have a cooler box on trial that pulls 5 amps but I will be using a separate mains for that I think.
Cheers

I use something like this with the MHP, no problem at all:

Did you get the one with GPS?

nope- they didn't have it- would have been good as saved me a losmandy garmin gps unit next year when I get my G11.
This bench power thingy-so you just hook it up with a pair of leads and a ciggie plug?

I had three of these power supplies in 4 years and they all packed it eventually. I think they're lab power supplies for intermittent use. I now have one of these (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MP3241). About half price as well.

I just cut off the cig plug, stip the wires and hooked it up. Easy.

The one I linked to is just an example. My one has been ok so far, but perhaps there is a quality problem?

No, they're just junk.
When I was at Jaycar, I very quickly lost count how many of those(and the other two similar models) got returned.
I got a lot of pleasure when coming up with a different way to destroy them(Jaycar policy for low-value returns) before throwing them in the bin.
Ah the memories ;)

Mr B, which one do you recommend then? I have one of the "junk" ones. It's been running fine but want to know what to replace it with if/when it goes. The one Marc linked ok? Certainly more compact.

Yes the one Marc linked to is fine.
Jaycar staff may offer you the GH1379 which is a 12V 5A supply that is very popular due to price. I have heard of the occasional dead one, I sold a shed load of them and not one came back, but like anything electronic there is the possibility of the occasional bad production run.
These were made for Peltier Coolers, hence the GH code (Gadgets) instead of the MP code (Misc. Power) and the WACO style plug on it.
The GH1379's are regulated, but due to their intended use, the output isn't well filtered so may cause problems with some electronics. This will get worse when the supply is nearing it's max current output.
I would spend a bit extra and go for better filtering and more current handling from the MP3241.
