Just 2 subs - no stacking apart from a 35% transparency overlay in PS 5.1. No darks or flats removed.

Subs 5 minutes long, ISO 600. Might add MORE to these, manually stacking (seeing I cannot get DSS to stack colour worth a damn for some reason)

Nice image Lewis - some good colour in there! Is that a modded DSLR you used?

Hi Lewis,

Getting there, I noticed some coma around the edges / corners of the field. Not sure if an MPCC works on a Vixen 200L, but it might be worth investigating?

As for DSS, I had no end of issues like you, with DSLR shots not stacking in colour.

Try "per channel background calibration" in the settings. You should see this when you press "stack checked pictures". Scroll down, at the bottom of the settings, you will see a link that allows you to set this on, (if it is already on, it will be greyed out).

Are you processing in RAW by the way? If you load up a single image and then click on it on the bottom, you should see it in the main window. Slide the grey slider at the top right towards the left to stretch the image and see if its in colour, if it isnt, it may be your debayering settings.

Try loading my DSS settings file, I have attached it to this post. I used these settings on my Tarantula shot, give it a go and see if it works (you might need a dark or two...)

Hope it helps. Oh, JJJNettie also recommends downloading the 3.3.3 beta 47 version of DSS, apparently it fixes a few issues.

You will need to unzip the DSS settings file and "load" it in via the menu on the bottom left of DSS under options, Settings, load, browse to the file etc.

Cheers

Chris

No sir, stock-standard Canon 5DMkII with inbuilt NR on. I may buy a Baader T ring with the integral IR cut filter to save modding the camera.

Thanks Chris - will give it a crack. ALWAYS use RAW, or TIFF (sometimes). I check and recheck the settings, and it ALWAYS tells me the RAW CR2's are Grayscale, which is non-sense. I am using the beta.

DSS certainly beats the opposition though - Registax 6 refuses to work on my Win 7 machine, and MaxIm DL is so long winded it's frustrating :)

The telescope for this shot and Horsehead is my ED80 refractor, not the VC200L. I think I get better shots with the little ED80!!! Looks like I need to buy a coma corrector for her - thought the fields were pretty flat, UNTIL I started doing >1 min exposures! They sure are coma'd on the edge!
