This object has been on my re-image list for several years now. The last time I imaged this object was nearly three years ago and I was not happy with the result. The stars were elongated and the colour was not great despite the 7.5 hours of data that I had captured.
This image while early days might well be my last chance to image this object this year. If I get more data on it then I will certainly rework the data but despite the noise present I think this image works well.
Teh sculptor galaxy or silver coin as it is known is located in constellation of the Sculptor at a distance of between 11.4 and 12.8 million light years. It is a galaxy which is undergoing violent star formation. A wonderful galaxy to view through a large telescope it has good surface brightness due to its angle to us.
