Here is my first real go at a coastal landscape - actually any landscape. We were on holidays up at noosa for the week, and I got up a few mornings and hiked up onto the Sunshine Beach headland before sunrise.

This is a single image with a 5D Mark III, 17-40mm @ 27mm, 0.8s at f/16 ISO 100. I used photoshop CS5 for post processing - shadows and highlights, vibrance, some levels to bring out the slightly over exposed sky, and unsharp mask.

There are some artefacts around the trees on the far headland from levels and sharpening which I am not sure how to handle. Not really an issue unless you zoom in or print it large, I guess, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is a link to a larger version. (2 Mb) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/06iqbd1xsur5tln/sunshine-sunrise-large.jpg)

Nice shot Adam. That's Paradise Caves tucked in on the left with far headland being The Devil's Kitchen. You might want to go for a walk over that way if your up this way again. One the there side of The Devil's Kitchen is Lion's Rock, a large basalt rock face that fell away from the headland. Spend some time up there, you'll love it ;)

Thanks for the info paul - nice to be able to put some names to the places. It certainly is a great spot to be at sunrise - although I did have an unusual encounter there this morning...as I was scrabbling up the headland I came face to face with a bloke hiking in the opposite direction. He was completely naked apart from a small backpack and some shoes. He saw me and the camera and the look on his face told me that he thought I was stalking him with my lens. No words were exchanged, we both quickly went our separate ways.... :eyepop:

Must have been the same guy I nearly speared with a fishing rod while walking to Lion's Rock one morning about 4:30 a few years ago. He nearly impaled himself on my fishing rod as he came jogging out of the dark with just a pair of sand shoes on. My mate that was with me and I wondered which bedroom window he'd just jumped out of
