did anybody have a look at jupiter and moon this morning...up at 4.00 they where around 40 mins apart nice in finder scope...used my binos 9x63 around half an hour ago and where within 15 mins seperation and that's it for me western horizon smokey and trees.any reports from our western states and a little further south..damn it would have been a nice sight.

I'm sure they were. Unfortunately Melbourne have sent their cloud to Sydney.

i tried again with a western view and the bino's moon was somewhere close to horizon but the smoke was to thick!!!! to see anything..

Mozzie,

I got a very brief look through very infrequent gaps in the clouds here in Adelaide. From my site, it was going to be close to grazing.

I was set up at 6am and got 4 (count them, 4!) glimpses of about 20 seconds each at various stages up to about 7:10am when the clouds became solid.

So, didn't see the closest approach, but it was still a remarkable sight. Jupiter was so large compared to the moon!
