Good evening
My first thread

Looking at Jupiter tonight with Tasco 8x-15x50 wide angle binculars.
Am I seeing some of Jupiter's moons? My vision looks just like a diagram in Astronomy 2006 magazine.
Is it Jupiter setting in the Western sky around 5am AEST?

Jupiters moons are actually bright enough to see naked eye, unfortunately Jupiters brightness drowns them out for most people.

And yes Jupiter is setting in the west in the morning and if you look to the east you will see Venus.

Viewing this morning 5am AEST, nice to have confirmation of what I have been looking at.
I am reading Astronomy 2006, Sky & Space as well as looking at NASA, Sydney Observatory and Heavens Above.
I have less then a basic understanding at this stage.

Keep reading and observing. It's amazing how fast you will learn about the night sky with your binos, the publications you already have, and a good sky map. A planesphere is also a handy tool for getting your bearings at night.

I was surprised to see Jupiter rising so early now. 5.30 pm this evening while driving east and there it was guiding me home from work. Cant wait till I get my scope fixed!
