Thoughts for Sophie

Just saw in the news that Sophie Delezio, the little girl who suffered horrific injuries three years ago at a child car centre due to a runaway car, has tragically been involved in another life threatening accident.The accident happened as Sophie was being pushed in a stroller across a pedestrian crossing.She is currently on life support with critical injuries to her head,chest and legs. To say this unbelievable and unfair is a understatement , tears your heart out ,my thoughts are with her and her family.

What awful, shattering and gut-wrenching news. I really just don't know what to say, other than please, please make a full recovery, you brave little girl.

Our prayers are with you Sophie.

I was driving home tonight when the story broke over the radio.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I'm still in shock.

I got a call from my son's mate this afternoon that my son had had an accident on his bike, he's okay now but has a nasty cut to his knee. Thanks to a kind lady who happened to be a nurse and was nearby who attended to my son.
I hate to think what Sofies parents must be going through right now my heart goes out to them and my family and I are praying that Sofie recovers from this tragic accident and heals quickly and pain is free.

And unfortunately in both cases very elderly drivers.

Now, please don't take this the wrong way, but as a journo of many years I'm alarmed by the incidence of these types of accidents.

There was also that awful recent case at the Bathurst show. The list goes on, but it demonstrates a very clear and worrying dilemma.

I know this is a very contentious point and I'm aware of the different sides of the argument.

I just feel testing only the eyesight of drivers in their 70s and 80s ... is only one part of the problem... but not the only criteria.

It's an emotive debate. I'm not sure of the solution. I know all age groups have accidents..... but...

Like I said, I'm aware of the many sides of this issue.

Just a thought.

Well...

Good news tonight.

Sophie's injuries are not as bad as first thought, although she does remain on life support.

Doctors are expecting her to make a full recovery.:)

Let's hope the rest of this little girl's life is a good luck story

I heard the news this afternoon...I..cannot believe it could possibly happen again...anyway...she's in the best possible care...and like matt..hope the rest of her life is brighter..

Watching the news tonight my wife and i couldnt believe it.
Truly devastating!! How can a poor innocent little girl be delt such bad luck.
I also feel for the parents.To have something like that happen to your child would be hard enough but twice would be unimaginable.
At the least on a good note it seems she will eventually make a full recovery.
Our thoughts are with her and her family.

On another co-incidence, remember last year my daughters class mates were in that horrific bus crash?

Well, 3 more of her class mates were in the train smash last week. And it happened at the exact same place!!! Both within 50m of each other in the middle of nowhere! :eyepop:

One of her classmates was sitting next to one of the people that died.

No correlation though. Bus crash was in fog, train crash was a truck sitting on the track. Wierd.

Her class mates are ok, shaken, but ok. :thumbsup:

Just heard on the news that Sophie is awake and has been cracking jokes, giving the doctors the thumbs up and should be out of hospital in a couple of weeks.
