Gday Guys

Pleased to announce that the AAIC2013 is booked and invited speakers are coming on line. I just couldn't do Sydney unless everyone wanted to pay $500 a day and I had overwhelming requests by email last time i discussed it to keep it where it was - so I have. It will be held on the full moon weekend in August 2013 (23rd to the 25th August 2013) at the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise.

I have invited several well known presenters and so far I have acceptance from :

Jay Gabany - recently voted one of the 25 most influential in space by Time Magazine - see http://www.cosmotography.com/images/TIME_New_Space_Discoveries.html

Jay will be delivering How To workshops. That is the key to this conference - it is intended to be all instructional or informative with an emphasis on How To talks.

I am waiting to hear from 2 other internationals who I am very excited about as well.

Marcus Davies and Greg Bradley have also offered their services - thanks guys - we need to show the internationals we know our stuff.

Again anyone keen to deliver a workshop or presentation please let me know and we can discuss it.

On a personal note I got the Leyburn Remote Observatory operating on the weekend - quite a challenge without mains power and with weak wireless internet. I will take some photos and post in the observatory forum after the weekend - a big thanks to Brett Soames for putting up with all the dumb questions - I should be able to post some images soon - it has been a long time.

Website should up and running soon for the AAIC2013 at www.aaic2013.com

I hope this conference will surpass the success of the last one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Nettie - I hear I missed you out at Leyburn - don't listen to what Greg bock tells you - laugh. Hope to catch you soon.

Some more exciting news - I got the email from Greg Terrance from FLI last night and they are on board as major sponsor again and I haven't even sent out the sponsorship invitations. So it is the FLI AAIC 2013 now. I hope to have some more exciting news regarding sponsors and trade display soon - I got very good feedback in California last year and a lot of interest from industry over there.

An update on presenters - Paul Haese is now also on board for a workshop and I forgot to mention Ivo Jaeger in the first post - he will be presenting and donating copies of his software for us to give away in the door prizes part of the conference.

I will keep you all updated.

With QLD Astrofest on from the 2nd to 11th of August 2013, it might be wise to start building up Brownie points now if you wish to attend both events. :)

Awesome cant wait. Got the go ahead from the boss last night.

Image processing Workshops from Adam Block or Martin Pugh or Mike Sidonio would be most excellent ( hint hint)

Great news Mark. I'll have to cancel my dirty weekend with Beyonce to make it, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make in the name of science.

Thanks guys

jj - I actually wanted to have it on the first weekend of astrofest but the venue wasnt available - wanted a sort of Qld astronomy week type event but I had to grab the weekend of the moon or it would have become too late for sponsors to organise themselves.

Chris - all I can say at the moment is watch this space re presenters - i think there will be some good surprises. No sense having a concert without a few rock stars.

Peter - nah mate i would go with Beyonce (who am i kidding - i would end up dead either from a heart attack or a carving knife in my wifes hand)

Thanks again everyone

Thanks Mark and I am looking forward to it. My presentation I'm sure will be informative for new comers and advanced.

I look forward to hearing Jay's talk and wonder whom else will be presenting and present.

Should be a cracker of a weekend.

Another update - pleased to announce that Phil Hart is on board for a presentation as well. Remember I need presenters so let me know if you are interested. It doesn't all have to be advanced - Some beginner to intermediate level presentations are definitely required.
