Looking for someone willing to service a HEQ5 mount

Hi all

About to "commission" an observatory but would be looking to do a full strip down and service of my mount. Ordinarily I would be beating down Brendans door but looking to see if there is anyone in the Sydney area able to do this for a respectable fee.

Am not mechanically gifted no matter how good astro baby,s step by step guide is so if there are any takers drop me a pm?

Bintel are pretty good (at least the Melbourne branch is).
I'd give 'em a call with what you need and see if they can sort you out.

Thanks..interestingly when I rang Bintel Sydney they said they wouldn't do it but suggested I try Andrews which of course is where I got it.

Will see how I get on with Andrews

You might wanna think about its current age and running condition, and if its really needed. I would send it to Brendon, he is going to do a way better job over any store. He isn't just in it for the money and primarily deals with these mounts and knows the ins and outs and how to set the worm mesh perfect. A store will probably just crack off the side casing, check the drive gears, put a squirt of grease in, adjust the worm quickly and send you a bill. If you think bintel or andrews will fully strip down your mount and remove paint and casting dags for less then $400 your living in a pipe dream. I really think you should just have a go your self though :)

I did my EQ6 Pro earlier this year following the Astrobaby tutorial.

At first it seemed very daunting, but as long as you take your time and follow the steps, it is not really that bad.

I purchased Superlube PTFE lubricant from a local locksmith (pretty hardstuff to find in Adelaide....) and away I went!

Like a brand new mount!!

Cheers Daniel.. My issue is with dealing with the adjustments afterwards...a bit of play here, a little bit there..that's what bothers me..I just put a pier on the obsy today so will see how everything is going once I drift align and get everything up and running..
