Hi all, just tried 6 second exposures of my southern region, that didn't record any activity. From Pt Lincoln, 35 degrees South. If any have clear southern skies from Tasmania or southern New Zealand you should be a good chance to see some activity.
All the best.

To see it only ONCE would be a thrill for me.
Yep, it's been spectacular.

One of the most eerie experiences on planet earth, I grew up in Finland and saw this phenomenon 30 to 40 times each winter, some nights just a flicker, on some magical nights the whole sky would dance for hours.
Going back in Feb/Mar 2014 for an 'aurora tour' in Lapland.

I am glad someone saw it, and I think there is still a chance tonight also. Hi Matt, so you didn't get sick of it after seeing so many each year. I am booked on a tour in February for 2 weeks in the Inari region. All the best.

Going to be keeping an eye on things from Christchurch tonight, although fairly unlikely to see anything I think given the cloud cover.
There have been some good solid pulses over the past few hours though http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/pmap/OverviewS.html

You will love the Inari area, we were there in 2004 and 2007, it is magic.
We are going to Inari again in 2014. Pack your winter woollys, -25C is a bit chilly.

Thanks for all your comments. The kp index did peak at a 7 but dropped to 4 by Sun set. I got a faint image of the aurora, but it had to use a 29 second exposure with f2.8 lens and camera at ISO 3200.
All the best.
