Hey guys, I know its about 7 months away, but I am planing on attending the 2013 IIS Camp next year. It will be the first event, other than a camp from the 3rd grade where we got to look at Jupiter and the Moon!

I am not ultra experienced, and I'm not sure if I feel comfortable bringing any equipment up, because knowing my luck it will take me 3 nights to get polar aligned, guiding properly etc, and then the whole thing will be over!

Other than that, is there anything else I should know, other than what is written down in the forum?

Cheers, Erik

Hi Erik,
If you bring your gear, there will be plenty of people about who will be happy to help you set it up and align it.
If you come without your gear, there will be plenty of scopes to look through and people happy to share their views.

There are generally two groups:
The imagers up on the hill, and
The observers down the bottom. ;)

It is normally fairly informal and fun.

Hope to see you there.

Thanks Allan. Sounds good. Just need to organize time off work, which is difficult at the best of times....But I really hope I can make it.

I have not been to the IIS camp but have been to a few others. You will always find people at the camps are more than willing to assist you with getting gear set up. I remember the first one i went to, I was actually embarrassed to get my little scope out, but once I met a couple of people they encouraged me, helped me get aligned and we spent a lovely night finding targets.
Take your gear, make yourself known and you will have a great time!
