Canon 7D

Hi

Anyone using a canon 7d for astro work? I believe the noise performance is not that great but is it better than say a 450d (my current camera)?

Bought the camera today from Georges Cameras in Sydney. Now to try the 7D out in the field

I have the 7D and use it for all my astro work. Noise isn't as good as the 5D but you can still take very good astro photo's with it. I enjoy using the camera a lot.

I used to have lots of examples on my website, with shot details, but since changing my website provider haven't really re-built that. You can still find several there taken with the 7D like all the recent astro shots like this:

Seeing your other thread I thought you'd have gone with the 60d?

Hi Roger

I received permission from SWMBO to spend a bit more. For the cost of the 60da I could get the 7d and mod my 450d and still have a good camera for general photography.

My first astro shot with the 7D through an 8" SCT at F6.3.
This camera is sharp.

Nice work John – that’s quite a difficult shot, to balance the brighter highlights and the deeper shadows.

Here is a crop of your image, which I processed a tad in CS6 to enhance the details a little.

It amazing the detail you can get from a single exposure. Have a go at this shot. Again its a single frame.
