Had a good night with the BAS team for our monthly public viewing at Mt Coot-tha, Brisbane. A large friendly crowd enjoyed the views available through the various scopes on site. Lots of familes and a group from one of the Universities with Astro Physicists to answer questions.

This is my best imaging effort for the International Observe the Moon Night. Sat 22nd Sept.

I am having a bit of trouble keeping the detail sharp near the Moon's limb. I don't think it will be possible to improve on this until I invest in a more advanced imaging setup. Any comments on how to improve this image gratefully accepted.

afocal photography using the SW 12" GoTo Dob and a 25mm EP. A Panasonic DMC-FT1 compact camera clamped to the EP.

Hi Stu good image. You could try a better camera, one with a c or t thread so it will coupled to you telescope easy with the use of adapters. I also had a little play around with your picture, so I hope you don't mind 8-). I adjusted the colour a little bit.

Nicely done Stu!

The soft detail near the limb is a combination of probably eyepiece quality and the camera not being directly square etc.

The best way to improve would probably be with a DSLR and t-ring/adapter to do prime focus photography (take the eyepiece out of the equation).

That is much better Troy. The original image was way too bright and I had to back off the brightness and up the contrast. The colour was messed up when this was done. Thanks for adjusting the colour, it looks more natural now.

Thanks Mike. I will have to upgrade to a DSLR. It would be great to have the image quality match the visual resolution at the eye piece. My current setup has probably been pushed as far as it can be for image quality.
