Active regions with Lunt, DMK and Point Grey Research

Finally got a good Lunt 80. Only had a short time to get some data today, so the seeing was not great with an approaching front but the detail is pretty nice.

The close up is taken with the DMK41 and the full disk is with the PGR at native focal length. I plan on using a 1.5x Siebert barlow to fill the sensor (this image is a crop).

With any luck some good seeing will appear soon.

Glad you finally got it sorted Paul .I look foward to your disc pics when you get all this new gear up and running to a T. As an aside I am still waiting for a CaKB1200 Diagonal ordered several months ago. Hopefully it will be a good one.

Hi Paul - great to see you got it sorted out - I was surprised you had difficulties with the 80 (x2) as my experience has been nothing short of superb. The images look very good and now the wait for good conditions!

Well done Paul. The full disk has come up well with nice even illumination. The proms came up a treat and seeing moving forward will be the main limiting factor rather than equipment. I fully concur with Matt's comments about the Lunt scopes.

Matt and Ted, it was one of those things I guess. Test of patience on my behalf. Ted as you know it was touch and go there for a while.

Trent, I have the flea3 fire wire and used it for my planetary imaging for over a year now. I can highly recommend it. Very fast and very low noise.




Ernie, I am placing the barlow after the blocking filter. This works well and I have been doing this since 2006 when I first started imaging the Sun in Ha.

Hi Mike,

Ok helpful hints.

1) Use a darkened box for focusing and a towel or something so that you can focus easily. This also comes in handy for setting the etalon.

2) Move the etalon backwards and forwards until you see the most amount of detail. At the peak detail that is where you want to be. This is difficult and requires some practice.

3) Reduce gamma a little; not too much but enough to show you the detail.

4) Capture for around 60-100 seconds at first.

5) Try for frame rates of 15 fps. Manipulate the exposure to as low as you can while having the gain nearly half way and the histogram at 3/4.

6) Pratice as often as you can.:)
