Taken last night in pristine conditions.

13 panel mosaic from Orion to the Magellanic Clouds.

A good example of the huge dynamic range of the D800E - it was pitch dark and yet the foreground has some detail.

30 seconds, ISO6400, 14-24mm at 14mm F2.8.

Another great pano Greg. :thumbsup: You'll have to run us through a quick steps on how you stitch/process that. How do you orient the camera? Portrait? Do you rotate and align to the horizon line for each shot? How much overlap do you provide for? Also do you have problems with the milkyway moving before the first and last frame? Any problems matching the whole lot?

I level. The camera has a virtual horizon that I find very useful. But you can eyeball it but it is something you have to keep an eye on. You don't want to find out the next day there is a little gap between panels!

I do landscape usually but portrait would work too and may easier to stitch. You don't want a piece of nondescript sky that is very difficult to ascertain where it fits in a 10 or 12 image mosaic.

I overlap around 25%.

I don't seem to have problems with the Milky Way moving which did surprise me. I think its how the stitching program matches up and aligns the images.

Yes there can be problems stitching the images. Often the software does not recognise the matching points and it has to be done manually. Sometimes not that hard and other times difficult.
